RFT image

Laboratory: USDA – Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS)

Technology: Mutated Salmonella enterica

Opportunity: USDA-ARS is seeking interested industry parties to license this new, novel vaccine technology.

Details: The mutated Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium vaccine provides protective immunity in vaccinated swine, poultry, and other animals for a variety of S. enterica serovars. Through this vaccine technology, the bacteria are weakened and a generative immune response is triggered.

Benefits: This technology provides a broad protection against a variety of Salmonella enterica serovars and could even reduce the use of antibiotics in animal production for nontherapeutic purposes.

Potential Applications: This vaccine provides a safe and efficacious method for combating various Salmonella enterica to prevent disease in animals. The technology also can be applied in reducing subclinical infections in food-producing animals that are a source of foodborne diseases in humans.
