Bidirectional Wireless Charging

ORNL Bidirectional 0079

Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy demonstration project uses the world’s first level-2 bidirectional wireless charging system to enable fast, efficient energy flow between this novel 3D printed vehicle and building.

The vehicle is equipped with a natural gas-fueled generator that can power the building, while the solar panels on the building can provide power to the car. The project serves as a model that can be scaled up and deployed quickly in emergencies or for rural areas without reliable access to the grid.
