SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific’s (SSC Pacific) Transducer Evaluation Center (TRANSDEC) is a one-of-a-kind, six-million-gallon anechoic pool used for research and underwater sound projects. The pool permits the test and evaluation of underwater sound equipment, such as underwater motors and pumps, free from biological (fish) and man-made (motorboats, swimmers) noises that cause errors in performance calculations.

TRANSDEC celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014. After 50 years it continues to be a vital tool for transducer calibration and underwater acoustic testing. TRANSDEC also hosts the annual RoboSub competition, in which student teams from all over the world perform realistic missions using student-built autonomous underwater vehicles.
