The Virtual Training Devices (VTD) Laboratory at the Life Cycle Software Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, provides a software testing and support environment for various PEO-STRI Training Devices. The systems supported at the VTD Laboratory include the Abrams Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicle family of Conduct of Fire Trainers (COFT). The laboratory currently consists of several COFT Trainers, which will be upgraded to accommodate the new COFT Rehost Environment. The onsite trainers provide an environment for trouble shooting and performing software verification and validation for each software configuration and update.

The COFT is the Army's primary gunnery trainer for America's M1, M1A1, M2A1, M2A2 ODS tank/fighting vehicle crews. It places the gunner/commander in a realistic crew station and presents them various exercises that teach proper gunnery techniques ranging from bore-sighting, live fire prerequisites, tank tables, malfunctions, and crew training.
