t some point during each year nearly half of the Earth's surface becomes subject to snow, ice or frozen ground. Gaining new knowledge of these cold regions and putting that knowledge to work for the Corps of Engineers, the Department of Defense, and the nation is the task of the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Housing the nation's most comprehensive assemblage of cold regions experimental and laboratory facilities and technical expertise, CRREL is a world leader in developing methods for building, traveling, living and working in some of the most extreme environments on Earth.
