Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is a federal technology agency that aims to develop and promote measurement, standards, and technology to enhance productivity, facilitate trade, and improve the quality of life. A non-regulatory agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, NIST carries out its mission through four major programs: the NIST Laboratories, the Baldrige National Quality Program, the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and the Advanced Technology Program. The NIST Laboratories are located in both Gaithersburg, Md., and in Boulder, Colo.

With a staff of about 350 scientists, engineers, technicians, and support personnel, plus some 100 visiting researchers each year, the NIST Boulder Laboratories conduct research in a wide range of chemical, physical, materials, and information sciences and engineering. The Boulder Laboratories occupy a scenic, 84-hectare campus at the foot of the Colorado Front Range. The campus is shared with offices and laboratories for units of two other Commerce Department agencies.

Funding

NIST invites proposals from eligible organizations to provide in-depth collaborative support in developing and advancing stakeholder relationships that are critical to the success of the MEP program, based on the recipient's expertise and knowledge of State manufacturing and technology agendas. NIST MEP is a federal-state-industry partnership program.The MEP system of Centers and field offices throughout the U.S. provides a mechanism to integrate federal and state public policy goals, respond to market forces and address the needs of manufacturing sectors and of individual manufacturers.

NIST is soliciting applications from eligibleapplicants to pilot online identity solutions that embrace the IdentityEcosystem Steering Group's (IDESG) Identity Ecosystem Framework (IDEF).Specifically, identity solutions must: 1) Enable online access to one or morestate, local, or tribal government service(s). 2) Provide for afederated, verified digital identity that enables multi-factor authenticationand an effective identity proofing process meeting the risk needs of theservice(s). 3) Aligns with the Identity Ecosystem Framework Requirements. 4)Allow for interoperability with other federations in use in the public andprivate sectors. NIST encourages pilots that maximize their contributionto the ongoing development and adoption of the Identity Ecosystem Framework,the OpenID Foundation iGov Working Group, and other public forum.

Lab Representatives

NIST is soliciting applications from eligible public school districts and accredited private education institutions in the U.S. and its territories. These eligible institutions would nominate science teachers in grade six (6), seven (7), and/or eight (8), who have successfully completed the NIST Summer Institute for Middle School Science Teacher (NIST Summer Institute) Program. The nominated teachers must have completed NIST Summer Institute Program prior to applying to participate in the NIST RET Program. The NIST RET will allow the selected teachers to participate in scientific research with NIST scientist and engineers at the NIST Campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland during the summer of 2016 for six (6) continuous weeks (exact dates to be decided by the teachers and NIST scientist and engineers.

Public School districts and accredited private educational institutions in the U.S. and territories that offer science classes at grade levelsix (6), seven (7) and or/eight (8) (often termed middle school) Applicant school districts and institutions must offer instruction in general science fields, such as earth science, physical science, chemistry, physics, and/ or biology. Individual public school teachers and individuals public middle school are not eligible to submit applications directly to NIST and instead must be nominated by their school district. Individual teachers at private educational institutions are not eligible to submit applications directly to NIST and instead must be nominated by their private educational institution.

NIST is soliciting applications from eligible colleges ans universities in the U.S. and its territories, nominating undergraduate students to participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program. The SURF Program will provide research opportunities for undergraduate students to work with NIST scientists and engineers, to expose them to cutting-edge research and promote the pursuit of graduate degrees in science and engineering.
