The 9 x 15 Low Speed Wind Tunnel produces air speeds ranging from 0 to 175 mph. The facility is used for low subsonic testing of propulsion system components at a range of angles of attack. With an acoustically treated test section, the tunnel is used extensively for testing the aerodynamic performance and acoustic characteristics of propulsion components such as inlets, fans, propellers and nozzles. The facility is operated and controlled by a new distributed control system, using alarm and color graphic CRT displays. The facility is equipped with modern steady state and dynamic instrumentation systems. A major facility rehabilitation was completed in 1993 and maintenance improvements continue.
