ABOUT THE 2016 MBDA NATIONAL TRAINING CONFERENCE

The National Training Conference (NTC) for the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) is an annual training event held for MBDA’s network of Business Centers. MBDA actively promotes the strategic growth and expansion of minority-owned enterprises (MBEs) by offering management and technical assistance through a nationwide network of over 40 MBDA Business Centers, funded by cooperative agreements with MBDA.

The NTC serves as a vehicle to train MBDA and its Business Center staff on new and innovative programs; new and existing policies; procedures for the management of grant awards and compliance; and new initiatives as they relate to the President’s Agenda; the Department of Commerce and MBDA.

MBDA PRIORITY: INCLUSIVE ECOSYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER INNOVATION

In 2015, MBDA developed a new partnership with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) to engage MBEs in federal tech transfer activities and resources. The conference will provide educational opportunities to educate the MBDA Business Center Network about technology transfer best practices, FLC business tools and potential partnerships with federal lab partners.

As a lead advocate for the increase of MBEs in technology commercialization, MBDA believes that the National Training Conference presents a great collaborative opportunity for federal labs representatives and the MBDA Business Centers. This unique experience will also include structured strategic planning meetings that will focus on the development of regional strategies to educate MBEs and minority-serving institutions about federal lab commercialization resources and programs.
