Scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory have developed a method for promoting the auto-induction of transcription of cloned DNA in bacterial cultures. The cloned DNA is under the control of a T7 promoter whose activity can be induced by an exogenous inducer. The induction ability of the exogenous inducer is dependent on the metabolic activity of the bacterial cells in the culture.
Advantage
- Defines the parameters of a T7 bacterial expression system that allows the production of toxic target proteins
Application
- Can be used to produce substantial amounts of toxic and nontoxic proteins
