The Technology Transfer Event of the Year!
The 2012 national meeting of the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from April 30-May 3, at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel.
T2 training is offered to all T2 professionals—from beginners to experienced practitioners. Join the discussion with subject-matter experts who provide in-depth training in technology transfer fundamentals, patents and intellectual property protection, licensing and negotiation, as well as discuss current T2 issues, including the latest on patent reform—the America Invents Act.
This year, for the first time, the FLC is honored to have a training day keynote speaker—Azam Khan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), who will examine the vision of the USPTO in light of the America Invents Act and patent policy and reform. Mr. Khan advises the Director of the USPTO on matters related to strategic planning, policy and political issues, and operations. He has worked in a variety of roles on the Obama presidential campaign, as well as for a Chicago nonprofit specializing in anti-discrimination, civil rights, and international law.
Each year, the meeting draws over 400 attendees, including federal laboratory and agency technology transfer professionals, patent attorneys, licensing professionals, technology marketing organizations, and other related professionals, as well as state and local government staff and businesses interested in technology transfer, partnering, and the commercialization of federal laboratory innovations and technologies.
The meeting kicks off on Tuesday, May 1 at 8:00 a.m. with our keynote speaker, Brian E. Joseph, co-founder of Touchstone Research Laboratory, Ltd., and founder of SJ Little Invention and Consulting. His primary area of study is high-speed, low-cost, breakthrough innovation. Mr. Joseph has more than 20 granted patents, with many more in process.
Come mingle with fellow tech transfer professionals, see what the federal labs have to offer, and meet with private industry at the Tech Fair!
The Industry Day keynote speaker is Dr. Ray Johnson, a global executive focused on diversity and innovation who is also Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Lockheed Martin Corporation. Dr. Johnson has a proven track record in managing large P&L organizations, strategic planning, program development, program management, and venture capital funding.

The emcee for the evening is Henry Wixon, Chief Counsel for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Mr. Wixon has an extensive technology transfer background, including developing and implementing worldwide patent defense and enforcement strategies as a registered patent attorney and intellectual property specialist.
The FLC is run by fellow tech transfer professionals who are nominated and elected to volunteer their time to serve the T2 community. In 2012, the FLC will elect a Finance Officer, Recording Secretary and three Members-at-Large, as well as Regional Coordinators and Deputies for the Far West, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions.
Elections are conducted at the national meeting, and will take place Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2, 2012.
