Department of Commerce: Federal Technology Transfer, Summary Report, FY 2007

Federal Laboratory Technology Transfer, Fiscal Year 2007, Summary Report to the President and Congress, prepared by the Department of Commerce, provides government-wide summary results of Federal technology transfer activities in FY 2007. The report fulfills the requirements of 15 USC 3710(g)(2), and includes tech transfer data from eleven agencies with significant Federal laboratory activity (USDA, DOC, DOD, DOE, HHS, DHS, DOI, DOT, VA, EPA, and NASA). The report includes both quantitative (e.g., numbers of patents filed/received, number of licenses, earned royalty income, etc.) and qualitative (e.g., anecdotal evidence of downstream outcomes and benefits) data, by agency and summarized at the government level. The data cover a five year period, from FY 2003 through FY 2007. Selected numerical statistics, government-wide; in FY 2007, there were 7,327 active CRADAs, 4,486 new inventions disclosed, 10,347 active licenses, and $149,894 in total licensing income. (Note: See the report for certain disclaimers, e.g., not every agency provided data for 2007 — so final numbers are understated).
