Background/History of the Laboratory:
The U.S. Geological Survey's Maine Water Science Center
provides information on streamflow, hydrologic, ground-
and surface-water, and other water conditions for Maine, New England and the United States. This information
is
available online, both historically (daily, monthly) and in real time.
The Center provides information on ice-out dates for Maine
lakes, monitors water use and river ice and works with
the state government to conduct the Maine Snow Survey. The Center is also a part of the New England
Coastal
Basins study unit, one of more than 50 National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program studies across
the
United States.
