Mission of the Laboratory:
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is the nation's largest
natural-science agency and has the principal
responsibility within the Federal government for mapping the nation, assessing its geological resources
and
hazards, understanding its natural biological resources, and providing hydrologic information for appraising
the
Nation's water resources. Information products are intended to contribute to the wise management of
the
Nation's natural resources and to promote the health, safety and well being of the people.
Scientists in the USGS Water Science Center of Minnesota
collect, analyze and interpret water data in
cooperation with other Federal, Tribes, State, and local agencies: universities; and other research
centers.
