Background/History of the Laboratory:
Near real-time data for more than 170 USGS
streamflowgaging stations across Kansas are available on the
Internet. Data in tabular and graphical format include stream stage or elevation referred to a gage
datum and
discharge or quantity of flow. Also available are data from a few near real-time water-quality stations
in Kansas.
The USGS has joint-funding arrangements with local, State,
and Federal governmental cooperators to
accomplish mutual goals in water resources in Kansas. In fact, more than half of the funds that support
USGS
water operations in Kansas are provided by these cooperators and only about 40 percent are provided
by
USGS appropriations.
Mission of the Laboratory:
The mission of the U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS) is to provide the citizens of the United States with the impartial
information they need to effectively and
responsibly utilize their natural resources and to protect the health, safety,
and well-being of the people.
