Background/History of the Laboratory:
The Mid South Area is one of eight research
areas within ARS. We have over 1000 full-time personnel, including
260 scientist and engineers, working at 13 research locations and worksites in the states of Alabama,
Louisiana,
Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky. All major agricultural commodities of the mid- south United States
are
researched by Mid South Area scientists including cotton, corn, soybean, rice, sugarcane, poultry and
catfish, as
well as small fruits such as blueberries and strawberries.
