Background/History of the Laboratory:
Formed in 1941 as
the nation’s first military simulation systems
developer, the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems
Division (NAWCTSD) serves as the Navy’s principal
center for modeling, simulation, and training system
technologies. Within the Naval Air Systems Command,
NAWCTSD is the Navy's source for a full range of
innovative products and services that provide complete
training solutions. NAWCTSD integrates the science of
learning with performance-based training and measurement of
training effectiveness that is focused on improving the
performance of sailors and Marines.
Mission of the Laboratory:
NAWCTSD’s
mission is to be the Navy’s center for research,
development, acquisition, test and evaluation, and product
support of training systems. NAWCTSD provides coordination
and training systems support to the Marine Corps, Army, Air
Force, other federal agencies, and foreign governments. This
includes requirements analysis, design, development, and full
life-cycle support. NAWCTSD’s mission includes
work in the areas of: research psychology, human factors,
education, computer systems, electrical, mechanical,
aerospace and industrial engineering.
Facilities:
NAWCTSD is
located in the Central Florida Research Park in Orlando,
Fla., adjacent to the University of Central Florida. Within
and near this research park, NAWCTSD is co-located with other
principal Department of Defense training and simulation
organizations, academia, industry partners, and
simulation-based entertainment groups. This physical
collocation allows for robust synergy among experts in the
areas of modeling, simulation and training.
