Background/History of the Laboratory:
One
of the lead research institutes for training, leader development, soldier research and development.
Handles survey research and occupational analysis. The U.S. Army Research Institute for Behavioral and
Social Sciences (ARI) provides the Army with technical expertise and analytical support, along with
decision
making techniques for soldiers and leaders. ARI keeps track of information on soldier and leader attitudes
and
concerns. The employees range from research psychologists, to those with a Ph.D., military officers,
and
graduate students acting as research assistants.

Mission of the Laboratory:
The mission of the Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences
is to
enhance individual and group performance along with group decision making and
individual decision making. Advances in the behavioral and social sciences are being
made to meet Army operational requirements. ARI is the primary
research institute for conducting
research and analysis on personnel performance and training. The research contributes to recruiting,
selection, assignment, training, mission performance, and situation awareness. Technical assistance
is
provided for the organization, the people, and the technologies for the future affecting all parts of
the Army.
