Background/History of the Laboratory:
The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT)
is the Air Force's graduate school of engineering and management, as
well as its institution for technical professional continuing education. Committed to defense- focused
research that
sustains the technological supremacy of America's air and space forces, AFIT personnel conduct wide-ranging
research with the Centers of Excellence in Directed Energy, Information Assurance Education, Measurement
and
Signature Intelligence, Operational Analysis, and Systems Engineering.
Mission of the Laboratory:
A component of Air University, AFIT provides responsive
graduate and professional continuing education,
research and consulting programs to keep the Air Force and DoD on the leading edge of technology and
management. The Institute accomplishes this mission through three resident schools (the Graduate School
of
Engineering and Management, the School of Systems and Logistics, and the Civil Engineer and Services
School). Through its Civilian Institution Programs, AFIT manages the educational programs of Air Force
officers
enrolled in civilian universities, research centers, hospitals and industrial organizations.
