Nebraska
In 2007, Nebraska-based federal agencies and laboratories received a federal R&D investment of $230 million. They leveraged that investment via their technology transfer efforts to address societal needs, promote economic development and growth, and enhance U.S. competitiveness. From defense to life sciences to energy to agriculture, Nebraska-based federal agencies and labs are meeting the technology transfer mission envisioned by Congress.

Technology Transfer Success Stories
Cost-effective Alternatives to Traditional Steak Cuts
The beef industry has long sought to identify cost-effective alternatives to traditional steak cuts while meeting the palate demands of its customers. The industry turned to the Beef Muscle Utilization Group (BMUG) at the Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center for assistance. The group was able to identify and develop new processing, cutting, and tenderizing methods for two new steak products-beef clod and tip center. The group worked directly with Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., and Cargill Meat Solutions to develop the new products.
