Description

  • A Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) is a legal agreement between a federal laboratory and a nonfederal partner, i.e., industry, academia, state and local government, to perform cooperative and mutually beneficial research and development.

    The federal lab may provide personnel, services, facilities, and equipment, but no funds.

    The nonfederal party may provide funds, personnel, services, facilities, and equipment.

Features/Characteristics

  • The CRADA provides for the protection of company proprietary information.

    Certain data resulting from the work can be protected for up to five years.

    The R&D must be mission-oriented.

I.P. and Resource Commitment

  • Nonfederal partner has the option of acquiring an exclusive license for a pre-negotiated field of use for a subject invention developed under the CRADA.
